The J-3 was a somewhat modernized version of the J-2, (USRA Heavy Mike.) it could be easily recognized because of the cast steel Delta trailing truck vs. the Cole trailing truck on the other 2-8-2's plus the air pump although single was mounted on the front deck rather than hanging on the left side of the boiler. Unlike the J-2 but like the J-A, the J-3 had an exhaust steam injector which can be seen mounted low at the forward end of the fire box. Behind the #437 can be seen the famous, or imfamous (depending on the point of view) gas-electric "Namakagon"
