Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, & Omaha Ry., Class "E" 4-6-2 #514

Photo taken at Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Summer of 1948

Engineer David Dahl brings the evening "Namakagon" to a stop precicely at 5:45 P.M. with the door of the Mail car precicely in front of the Shell Lake Mail carrier, George Bohn who has a single bag of outgoing mail held up within reach of the mail handler on the train. E. class Pacifics were a rarity on the Namakagon, as they were easily capable of handling a six to eight car passenger train consisting of heavy steel cars. The two lightweight cars plus mail car of the Namakagon were no challenge at all to #514. It more normally made the Twin Cities-Chicago run. Note that the "Cover photo" for the main C.St.P.M.& O. page is also #514.
