Unlike most of my photos of "dead" engines waiting to be scrapped, #420 is waiting to go into the shop for scheduled repairs. Note that it is set up for winter operation with a snow plow mounted on the pilot. In later years, all of the "time freight" engines had red oscilating "Mars" lights mounted atop the smoke box which were turned on day or night to warn motorists of its approach. at night in the winter the flashing red light on the snow was visible for miles.
