Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, & Omaha Ry., Class "I-1" 4-6-0 #106

Taken in the Spooner Roundhouse, Dec. 1950

The I-1 and K-1 10-wheelers were the workhorses of the way freight traffic. Although most major repairs to the Omaha motive power was done at the St. Paul Shops, some of it was parceled out to the division point roundhouses. #106 is shown here with the throttle valve pulled out of the steam dome for refacing the valve. Although it can't be seen in this photo, the smokebox front has also been removed and all of the superheater elements are laid out on a long work bench in front ot it. this repair job was obviously not a rush order as #106 spent most of the winter looking just as it appears in this photo.
